The Lawnmower Ate It!

Yep. It happens to all of us. It’s getting hot, the yard is only halfway finished, and you want to get done. A moment of not paying attention and the lawn mower feasts upon an object in the yard. Only this time the object is solid and stops the lawn mower instantly.

As you pull back the mower, you realize the pipe cap is now destroyed. The result is an open sewer and an ugly pipe. You think about it and decide to finish the yard. Then you forget about the open sewer access until the next mow.

Sewer systems need to be kept from being open to the environment. First, they smell. Second, debris getting into the system can cause other much larger issues. The screw-in pipe cap is an easily replaced part of the system. Not every item that a home inspection reveals is a costly repair. Some things, like this discovery, are very simple to address.
